The founder, James Yehl, changed his life and those of his two children when he discovered both his daughter and son suffered from asthma and allegies. Th majority of asthma and respiratory patients use prescribed pharmaceutical drugs that merely "mask" the symptoms and do little or nothing to solve the dilemma.
He departed the publically owned optical company he started and began to do research related to solving the life-threatinging effects of chronic asthma. His goal was to discover a non-drug, non-invasive method that would eliminate the signs and symptoms and allow his children to live a normal life. He succeeded.
He removed all synthetic fabrics from their wardrobes and exchanged polyester sheets and pillow cases from their beds with Mother Nautre's cotton and wool. He installed evaporative, air conditioners with expensive filter to keep out pollens, allergens and other pollutants. Then he investigated the scientific and medical literature and read about "negative ions", Mother Nature's "natural electrolyte." So much had been written about ionization in the world literature that it seemed a logical place to begin.
Europe and the former Soviet Union had been researching ionization with very positive results for many decades. How could this all be best utilized? A company was formed called American Environmental Systems, Inc. (AESI), the precursor to Air Defense, LLC where scientists and engineers were hired to develop systems for global applications.
In two short years, product systems were developed for home and offices that not only removed and collected the allergen particle, but had an immediate beneficial affect on occupants. So successful was this technology that it was re-designed and sold to Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 Companies that used clean rooms, in such industries as semicondutor, disk drive, pharmaceutical, microelectronics, laser & optics, aerospace, etc. , etc. No other method for controlling airborne particle contaminants has yet been developed that compares. Nor is there any technology that is so cost saving and energy wise.
